First the good news: in my hometown Bob Bacon won the seat in the State Senate which (I've got to check this, but) means that Democrats will be taking one of the Colorado legislative houses. Also my absolutely favorite Angie Paccione kept her seat in the State House. Karen Wagner also took County Commissioner, although I had high hopes for Roger Hoffman who looks to have lost by 1%.
Now for the agony. Anybody who claims Bush has already won Ohio is a Republican asshole who is trying the exact "we say we won so you lose spirit" game as they pulled in 2000. Any news outlet who gives Ohio to Bush (Fox, surprised?) is doing the country a disservice and pandering to the conservative base.
The fact is, Kerry is down by about 140,000 votes and there look to be about 250,000 provisional ballots out there, which will likely pull overwhelmingly for Kerry. I'm not going to claim that Kerry is the victor yet, but we've been down this election road for a year now (some of us, like my mom, longer) and we can damned-well keep going a few more days longer. Sadly, an issue like the provisional ballots is likely to be a hay-day for the armies of attorneys, so we'd all better be patient.
Also, Marilyn Musgrave, the evil, nasty, hateful Republican lackey in our Congress seat is ahead by a nose, but Boulder County has had technical counting issues so they're going to have to go over all the ballots by hand again, so we won't know that one for a day either.
