Apocalyptic Mood

Wildfires and hard disk crashes, memories of other disasters, wars, riots. I long for the good ol' 90's. Plus a very angry rant at Apple's horrible treatment of a major catastrophe.

Finally we're getting some appropriately cool weather again! It's been miserable for the past week or two dealing with temperatures surpassing 100 degrees, mixed with the constant concern over the nearby wildfires.

I hate this constant feeling of impending doom, where I'm constantly tuning into the news to check on the progress of things. It reminds me of two other "recent" periods when I was similarly preoccupied: 9/11 and the Iraq war. Man, life seems so different since the new millennium began. I really miss the 90's.

I guess it's just my luck to be around when some major disasters have hit. (New York during 9/11 and here during the wildfires. I was also here back in the Rodney King Riot days.) Then again, I barely missed two major earthquakes (S.F. and L.A.) and the flash flood in my hometown of Fort Collins in the summer of 1997. Enough already!

On another front there's a "disaster" that has me mad as a hornet. Apple still hasn't made any public statement about its new operating system destroying peoples' hard drives . (Mine included!) We're told (inside a discussion forum) that their engineers are working hard on researching the problem, but I'm floored that they aren't making any public statements warning their customers about the danger. I'm sure they're worried about this turning into a big Public Relations Nightmare and hurting sales of "Panther", but isn't it their duty to warn people that they might lose entire hard drives full of data? If this goes on another day I think this sort of irresponsibility would make for a decent class-action suit.

Well, enough of hard disk crashes and wildfires, I've got to refocus my energies on moving forward with the masters paper. Therefore adieu.
